Non-Government Organizations often work in austere environments where privacy and security are under a constant threat. Due to limited communication access, NGOs often use the Internet as their primary communication medium often via satellite links. NGOs are on a tight budget. They do not possess equipment to properly protect their communications or have the finances to afford the amount of bandwidth they truly need to provide sufficient levels of service.

In addition, they usually handle highly sensitive information ranging from patient medical information to human rights violations. Both of which, if released, can result in serious harm to the organization or individuals mentioned in the reports. Or, they are coordinating with other NGOs in support of natural or manmade disasters and require cross-communication.

Therefore, NGOs are in need of a simple to use capability that not only protects their communications from intercept/eavesdropping and reduces their bandwidth requirements, but also integrates with their existing equipment or system, without adding additional equipment and is easy to use.
